Where discovery meets real-world change

How it began

The Real-Life Research Institute (RLRI) was founded on the commitment to building stronger, safer, and more inclusive communities where every person has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background, identity, geography, or socioeconomic circumstances. Our journey began when a group of community leaders, researchers, youth advocates, and practitioners recognized persistent challenges affecting individuals and communities in Iqaluit, Ottawa, and beyond. Many young people, newcomers, Indigenous peoples, women, and other underserved populations continued to face barriers to meaningful participation in society, including social exclusion, inequality, limited access to opportunities, experiences of discrimination, and a lack of culturally responsive support systems.
